Book excerpt: This report describes the procedures and results of an experiment performed to measure the longshore sand transport rate in the surf zone as part of the DUCK85 field data collection project. Intended to provide complete documentation of the sand transport experiments, this technical investigation includes a compilation of the collected data. To the authors' knowledge, no previous experiment has directly and synoptically measured the longshore sand flux through the water column and across the surf zone as was accomplished in this project. Valuable data, considered to be unique in completeness and detail, were collected through this program for minimal equipment investment.
